Taking inspiration from the past and making it new-ish

Instant coffee is often a derided product by the connoisseurs of the bean world. The folks at CHRC had developed a product up to their high standards and wanted packaging to match the quality. Their recent shift to focus more on heritage and heirloom allowed an interesting exploration into the past to make a package that looks like you’d find in your dad’s camping gear from the 1970s. The colours were in fact sampled from my grandfather’s (still working) 1963 Regal percolator.

The sachets we designed to be an extension of the overall concept by being styled as individual matchsticks. It was important to make the user-experience of the product very comprehensive, tactile, and to make sure that every touchpoint was considered. The match reveal was one of the favourite parts of the initial consumer testing, as it brought a smile to everyone’s face.

A series of animated illustrations were produced using brand colours to bring awareness to the brand launch.
